Every Friday I open up a discussion topic and ask you for your input, whether that’s recommendations, experiences, questions, or general feelings on a specific topic. The threads will stay open so you can join in with, or read, past threads. They are public for anyone to read, but you can only comment if you’re subscribed to my Substack, so if you’re still on the fence let this be your sign to join us - it’s free and we are lovely!
This week’s discussion question is: How do you respond to comments about your rosacea?
I would love for these Threads to be a resource for you to share your knowledge and meet other people in the community, so please comment and do feel free to like and reply to other people as well - we’re all here because we are in the Rosacea Club! 🧡
In certain environments I get ahead of it - introduced myself to my new team with a bit of education on the topic and it encouraged one person to, privately, tell me about their visible (but dormant) skin condition. I make it clear that it's nothing to worry about and therefore they don't need to point it out, but they can think about things like heating/air con. If I have to be reactive then I'm not as patient or considered!
I find it easier to get in first and have also found people to share their skin concerns. On the flip side of this, I do get the impression folk roll their eyes a bit and think "here she goes again," but it's easier to deal with that than be put on the spot and inevitably be told how to deal with rosacea by someone who doesn't have it
I totally agree, I think my family have probably heard me give the 'rosacea talk' so many times they could probably step in and do it themselves! But we do what we need to to feel comfortable and happy x

That's such a good point - heading off the questions, comments, or jokes with a brief explanation and a boundary that you don't want to talk about it.
